I’ve been reading Investor’s Business Daily since business school in 1995 – I’m a big believer in the CAN SLIM method and I read all of William O’Neil’s books. I have a CMT and a CFA and as someone credentialed on the technical and fundamental side, his approach resonates with me.

Technical analysis is graphical representation of behavioral finance – human nature in graphic design – and until human fear and greed go away, these charts will help clarify behavior. I do appreciate very much that this isn’t just a technical product.

I had an early interest in finance. I was reading Forbes and Fortune at 15; my uncle got me a subscription. I was also reading Berkshire Hathaway reports in my formative years, and I’ve since taken 19 trips to Utah and brought 100 clients there with me there over the years.

I was a country music DJ during college in Vermont at the campus radio station. They had a graveyard shift available between 1 and 3 a.m. for rock and a 7 to 9 a.m. country show, so I went with that. Back then, we were still using vinyl and replacing records between songs. I like everything from Johnny Cash to Miranda Lambert.

I also love to travel. My goal is to add a country every year and I’ve done that so far for every year of my life. I love the novelty of a new place through fresh eyes. I always think of that Proust quote about travel: “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new sights, but in looking with new eyes.”
